Lazy Sunday: Post Apocalyptic Edition

I am by no means masochistic nor do I have a bunker full of spam, with the intention of out living everyone with out spam. (No you can't have any) But I do enjoy a good movie where everything goes to all hell. So today I took in three of my favorite sci-fi/survival/horror movies perfect for your own lazy Sunday.

First up is the definitive 1968 Zombie classic George Romero's Night of the Living Dead. I've herd over and over people whining "I can't watch black and white movies" well if you can't watch movie than you just don't like movies period. If you have never seen this ultra classic, written and directed by the man who re-invigorated the zombie genre and is either directly responsible for, or inspires just about all today's zombie movies, please, please, please do yourself a favor and watch this movie.

Next up is Alfonso CuarĂ³n's Children of Men, Set in 2027 in a world where no babies have been born in over a decade. With people panicking and societies crumbling, Theo (Clive Owen) must escort the first pregnant woman to safety. An action packed epic with a great performance by Michael Caine.

Last we have one of my absolute favorite Sci-Fi movies of all time, 1973's Soylent Green. Superstar Charlton Heston plays a cop in 2022, where overpopulation has endangered the worlds food source. With a blockbuster performance by not only Heston, but Edward G. Robinson as well, if you've never seen Soylent Green you don't know Sci-Fi

Romero's Diary of the Dead Trailer!

I love Zombie movies, I know, I know, everybody loves Zombie movies! Now when it comes to Zombie movies it just doesn't get any better than George A. Romero! I'll be honest I wasn't crazy about Land of the Dead, it had some great moments, but I feelt it lacked the usual impending doom and real survival horror elements which I have come to expect from the master(Romero) of the Living Dead. It looks like Romero is back to the beginning again with a great breakout story.(how the Zombies come to be) This looks like a fresh direction on an old genera. I think we need some new ideas in zombie movies, not to say it's all been done, but most of it has. I enjoyed both 28 days and weeks later, but am looking forward to Romero returning to his humble budget roots.

Check out the trailer below, Romero also opens up a contest to all would be Horror directors, and when your donr check out Romero's filmorgaphy at IMDB HERE

Who Want's to Kill some Zombies?

I think the better question is, who doesn't want to kill some zombies?

I found this great flash game over at Armor Games. Armor has a ton of fun flash games but the zombie killing fest know as The last Stand has got to be the best. Just a little advice, if you want to make it through this game other survivors are essentual. I tried to make it through solo, thinking "Search for survivors, why would I do that?" But without other people to help fix the barracade it's just too much. After a few tries I made it all the way through, the game is no subsittue for Resident Evil or Dead Rising, but it can make for a fun half hour.

Give it a try Here
Or Check out other Armor Games Here

Also I found some great Zombie links right here on Blogspot.
Check out Analog Medium's Encyclopedia Zombica, these guys are attempting to review and surmise every Zombie movie ever made. Quite an undertaking especially seing as there are some real bad movies in the Zombie genre. I have a good friend who loves Zombies and I can probably attribute most of my current love of zombies to him, the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, the lovable British romantic comedy in a zombie setting (BritRomZomCom?), Sean of the Dead and Robert Kirkman's killer comic The Walking Dead.

Please be advised The Walking Dead comic deals with some VERY adult issues so please read EACH issue before you pass it on to your young ones. But for the adults without a weak stomach I highly recommend it!

Good luck, had fun and enjoy zombie killing (or reading)
When your done come on back to Palaba's Posts and let us know how you did!
