Election 08 Pools, or Polls or Somthing!?
With every national election the question arises, do pools matter? I think it depends on where you live, whereas living in Florida I would really need a pool to beat the heat. For these who live in Alaska, I don't think pools matter, I mean isn't it usually below freezing there? Oh.. Wait.. Polls! Oh now I see, well I have no idea, but if you think they do check out this cool Poll tracker from USAToday.com HERE.
If your like me and you like pools more than polls check here's a couple of canidate pools!

Read the Death of Capitan America online, for free!
For a limited time Marvel is putting last year's best selling comic, Capitan America #25. If you haven't read this instant classic yet, I highly recommend it. Cap #25 is featuring the gorgeous pencils of Steve Epting, and written by my current favorite Comic writer, Ed Brubaker. Marvel is only keeping this one free for 2 weeks, undoubtedly to promote this weeks Captain America #34 where a new Captain America emerges. If you enjoy this digital comic I recommend the trade paper backs written by Brubaker, I was never really a Cap fan, but Brubaker's writing keeps me gripped to every panel.
Check out Captain America # 25 HERE (you need the current version of flash)
Check out Ed Brubaker's website HERE
Or check out Steve Epting's own Blogspot Blog HERE (I so have it in my feed reader!)
And Pick up Captain America #34 at your local comic book shop! ---->
Click HERE to find your local comic book store in the US!
Or HERE if you live in IRE or the UK!
Or HERE for any other country!

The Wire: Maurice Levy loves Robert McClintock?
All over blogs, big or small you can read all about this weeks shocking episode of The Wire, If you haven't seen it I'm not gonna spoil it for you. (click here if you just got to know) I am going to write about what I believe to be overlooked as so many details in the wire are. In one scene we are treated to the inside of Baltimore's scummiest of lawyers, Maurice Levy's law offices. Now you may have read of David Simon's tip of his hat to the real Baltimore quite often and in this instance it featured one my favorite artist, Robert McClintock. Levy's walls are covered with his work!
Robert McClintock is a self described "HYBRiD PHoTO-DiGiTAL ARTiST" meaning he uses photographs and paint, as well a Mac with a giant monitor. McClintock catches Baltimore's fun and quirky landscape as well as Simon depicts it's dirty not-so-underbelly. Was Simon hinting that the fun and loud Baltimore exists within it's dark seedy urban blight? Some times it's difficult to remember that David Simon's Baltimore, Robert McClintock's Baltimore and John Waters' Baltimore are all the same Baltimore and all were once Barry Levinson's Baltimore.
Whenever your in Baltimore's Fell's Point, I recommend you stop by McClintock's studio it's at 1809 Thames Street. If you need a zip for Google Maps it's 21231, which is coincidently right next to where NBC would shoot the external shots of the police precinct in Homicide.
Oh and I caught wind of a rumor the character Detective John Munch, played by Richard Belzer, who is currently on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, is going to make a cameo on an episode of this season's Wire. For those who don't know Belzer first played Munch on the Baltimore based Homicide, and will be setting some sort of record for most appearances in different TV shows as the same character. It seems this time TV is giving Simon a nod seeing as he wrote Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets, which became Homicide: Life on the Street. (Ok so he's really giving himself a nod, but I think he deserves it.)

117 Reasons to Hulk Out!
While poking my nose around where it doesn't belong I found the Blog of TV producer Kenneth Johnson. Who is Kenneth Johnson you may ask, Well he produced several TV shows in and around the 80's. The most notable of said TV shows would be Alien Nation and The Incredible Hulk. Up on his list he has a wonderful list of reasons good ole Dr. Banner would transform into the not so jolly green giant. Oddly enough I didn't see a single mention of that one episode where Dr. Banner tried to buy a Wii for his nephew, "Hulk smash puny teen aged condescending Gamestop manager!"
Check out the List HERE
How dare you download Ghostface's new album?!
Ghostface seemed a bit miffed at all the people downloading his new album, how does he know you ask? Well he has 118,777, and counting, MySpace friends and only sold some 30, 000 units.
Ghost if it makes you fell any better I bought my copy, and I'm not on your friends list.
I enjoyed the Bid Doe Rehab, Buy it HERE

Great movies for a lazy Sunday.
I think the title tells you about my day, yes I'm having a lazy Sunday and loving it! One of my favorite things to do is lounge on the couch and watch some movies! Now not any movie will do for a lazy Sunday, so I thought I'd recommend some;
First up we have Death to Smoochy. If you're a fan of dark comedies and you haven't seen this movie do your self a favor and pick it up. "Smoochy" has a great cast including Robin Williams, Edward Norton, Catherine Keener, Danny Woodburn, Jon Stewart and Danny DeVito, who also directs. Rainbow Randolph (Williams) is the star of a Kids TV show who is found taking bribes. The executives boot him and opt to find the most innocent figure they can find, Smoochy (Norton). Watch as Smoochy deals with crazy ex-entertainers, the Irish mafia, crooked TV execs, Nazis and trained killers.
Next we have The Royal Tenenbaums. I love Wes Anderson movies, all of them, but The Royal Tenenbaums is my favorite. Featuring the enormously talented cast of Gene Hackman, Anjelica Huston, Ben Stiller, Gwyneth Paltrow, Luke and Owen Wilson, Danny Glover and Bill Murray. I tell you all about the movie but trust me you need to see it for yourself. Again dark, dry humor.
Which brings us to our final movie for today, The Beatles Help! This is the movie I was watching today, what can I tell you but it's a goofy comedy staring the Fab Four and it was released in 1965. I can tell you they just re-released the movie on DVD and it looks so much better than this clip.
Now go enjoy your movies and I'll be back next Sunday to give you some more great Sunday Movies.

David Simon apologises to the City of Baltimore and tells of a confrontation with O'Malley
In a "web extra editorial" (sounds like a blog to me) Today on Baltimoremagazine.net, David Simon tells of a short standoff between him and then Mayor Martin O'Malley. Simon speaks of some regret if he had damaged the city's reputation, stating "We put our town’s shit in the street. And for that and that alone we ask apology for the premeditated trespass: Sorry for that."
Read it in his words HERE
I will say as a native West Baltimorean (I say I'm a Baltimoron, but don't use the term if your not from Baltimore) I want to say thank you. I know David Simon reads many a blog but I'm not arrogant enough to suggest he reads this one, but none the less I want to say Thanks. Thanks for validating us people in a city with problems, but people none the less. When I was 12 years old I would walk up to the 7-11 at the corner of Edmonson and Swan to buy my comic books, often I would be greeted by a man who introduced himself only to me as Iceman. Iceman would walk with me whenever he saw me in the "Village" to protect me warding away "vendors" trying to sell me a bootleg or women who claimed to "know my moma" wanting me to give them my cash then they could buy my soda or bag of chips with their Independence Card (or food stamps I can't remember which it was at the time). Iceman would for some reason call me Julio, I guess it ran along the lines of him trying to protect me, see I have a dangerous condition for a 12 year old in Edmonson Village, I was, and still am a short, fat, white guy. When I saw the Wire for the first time I, like most Baltimoreans felt validated, mostly because we can't even get people in our own state, let alone the country to even pretend to care. The Wire if nothing else acknowledges our presence and struggle as a city to deal with modern day problems using twenty year old methods. I will always be a knucklehead from Baldimore who thanks David Simon, if for nothing else then using a little sun light to disinfect our dirty laundry.

Digg your self into a hole!
The ever popular, ultra cool, super web savvy Digg has come under some fire for not being nearly as democratic as it claims. Now in all fairness I may be bitter because we here at Palaba's Posts have never been "Dugg" (I'd do it myself but that just seems dirty) But according to prisonplanet.com the web's unofficial "hey look at this" app is blocking or rather burying Diggs about Ron Paul. I'm no political pundit, heck I'm not even a political blogger, but this seems more like big brother than "internet democracy" to me.

What I miss most about writers? Comedy/Bring Back Improv TV!
Well it's week (honestly who's counting anymore) of the writer's strike and both sides are so full of knuckleheads, they can't even sit in a room together! I have my sneaking suspicions that the studios think they can wait for an outcome similar to the 1988 writers strike. If that's the case than I can't blame the WGA for standing their ground. The current contract is, in all fairness lacking in several areas. But I do think the WGA is making a few mistakes, for one not sitting at a table with the AMPTP. Also the decision to give Letterman's writers a pass while denying other shows the exact same deal, seem to wreak of favoritism.
Why not give the writers the same percentage of what the studio makes on said writers work, no matter what medium they make it off of? I guess that just makes too much sense.
Which brings me to my point, I miss the writers! Reality TV is rarely interesting, I can only take but so many game shows with canned cliffhangers and overly suspenseful music during a long pause. I want to laugh, I want to be entertained, I don't want to seem suspicious hubbies taking lie detector tests or the plight of some random, D list celebrity trying to meet their one true love in a focus group.
What I don't understand is why the studios don't give us some good old fashioned Improv comedy shows. Give us more Who's Line or Green Screen or hey networks make up your own!
Still not convinced? I dare you to watch these clips and not laugh!
First up is two clips from Drew Carey's Green Screen
Here's a short clip of the original British Who's Line
And finially one of the funniest episodes of the US version, with a special guest star!

Cloverfield: Great movie for thoes who don't get motion sickness!
I went to see Cloverfield this weekend, and I really think it was worth the $6.50, I am however having some buyers remorse over the soda, pop corn and sour gummie something or other. Over priced junk food aside, this was a fun flick. Don't go expecting your life to somehow be enriched when you leave just go and enjoy things blow up. After the reggetable Godzilla attacking New York, I was worried the movie would
be a little cheesy, after I herd about the "Blair Witch" style of filming, I got really worried. But if you can stomach the constant moving camera I recommend seeing this one in the theater, I don't think it will have the same effect at home, save for the top of the line home theater.
But please be warned, if you get car sick your gonna wanna sit this one out. A friend of mine got a call while we were outside the theater, with one of his friends in Pennsylvania saying some poor guy lost his popcorn in the seat next to him.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about check out the trailer below.

Is this guy ok? I'm not sure...
...I think he might be crazy.
Far be it from me to ever question another person's spirituality,
but for being a high payed actor, Tom Cruise acts out his PSA like a scene from Reefer Madness.
I am glad that someone will stop to help after an accident, or at least say they could have while riding by... wait what!?

Romero's Diary of the Dead Trailer!
I love Zombie movies, I know, I know, everybody loves Zombie movies! Now when it comes to Zombie movies it just doesn't get any better than George A. Romero! I'll be honest I wasn't crazy about Land of the Dead, it had some great moments, but I feelt it lacked the usual impending doom and real survival horror elements which I have come to expect from the master(Romero) of the Living Dead. It looks like Romero is back to the beginning again with a great breakout story.(how the Zombies come to be) This looks like a fresh direction on an old genera. I think we need some new ideas in zombie movies, not to say it's all been done, but most of it has. I enjoyed both 28 days and weeks later, but am looking forward to Romero returning to his humble budget roots.
Check out the trailer below, Romero also opens up a contest to all would be Horror directors, and when your donr check out Romero's filmorgaphy at IMDB HERE

American Gladiators: Good Show, Bad Sports?
I don't know how many of you tuned in to American Gladiators on Sunday or Monday, but over all I give the show a big thumbs up!
In the spirit of objectivity I must admit to loving the show as a kid, and the new version lives up to all the excitement of the original. The added bonus of the fall into water instead of matts for a defeted contestand or Gladiator amps up the fun factor and percived shame of the plunge.
The new events are fun too, but I'm glad to see most of my favorites return, the more Joust and Assult, the better!
The one big complaint I have is with the Gladiators themselves, actually just the male Gladiators.
First, these new gladitors seem real corny, I am a lot older now so mabie the Gladiators were always corny, but a howling Wolfe is just taking things too far. But my real complaint is the male Gladiator seem to be really bad sports taking way to many cheap shots. The women seem to be much better behaved . I under stand and appriciate smake talk but cheating, or being a sore looser (pushing the contestant when he beat you at Joust, whats that!?) just seems to make them look like punks.
But what do I know? Check out the embeded episodes below or go sign up at Hulu.com
