From the "Whaa...?" Department;

According to Hollywood.com Shia LaBeouf wants to make a movie about undergrown MC, Cage. (That's rapper in laymen terms) Now I am a big Cage fan, but as far as I'm concerned the jury's still out on LaBeof, but as long as he doesn't eff up Indy I'm sure I'll be ok.

Seriously though can anyone see Shia in a battle? I guess I'm just judging him on his past parts. I am glad someone want's to make biopics on the dope MC's that get no radio play. Seriously Rap/Hip-Hop on the radio is horrible. You wouldn't know but there are still a lot of good hip-hop music being made, you just have to know where to find it. I wonder if this pet project of his will ever make it out of the "I wanna" stage. I hope so, maybe it would open te doors for undergrown biopics. I can't wait for the El-P/Co-Flow story. How about "A Man and His Mask: the M.F. Doom story." or "The Funkiest of Homosapiens; Del, the Untold Story"

Don't know Cage? You should. Check out his MySpace Page HERE. It even contains a slo-mo shot of LaBeouf throwing up Cage's Sign on SNL.

I don't know if it's the fact that I'm not watching as much TV since the strike, of if it's just going to be another great year to be a comic book fan at the movies, but I am excited about all the comic book based movies due out next year. I'm excited about all the movies just being worked on next year. Heck I'm excited all the movies rumored to have a green light and no script. (I'm looking at you studio execs.)

The longer the strike lingers on the more worried I get about future projects. I like most of America feel the writers are justified, and will patiently wait untill the studio execs smarten up and offer these people whats fair, but I don't have to like waiting. As a comic book reader in the 90's if I learned nothing from the creation of Image comics, it's how important writers are. I'll stop ranting now, but look for future writer supporting rants in posts to come.

I think HellBoy II will be a fun action/adventure/popcorn movie, I am so thankful that they let Mike Mignola and Guillermo del Toro make a second flick...

For this lat trailer you really need to crank your speakers at 1:34. So far every think a read about this movie gets me more pumped. I'm glad they're using Ozzie's Iron Man, I glad self proclaimed Iron Man, Ghostface Killer makes an appearance. MY only additional hope for a cameo would be Baseball's Iron Man, Cal Ripken Jr.

Screen Shots from New Justice Leauge Animated Movie.

I don't know about you, but I haven't been disappointed with one of the Justice League animated movies yet. DC has a solid rep for good cartoons dating back to Batman the Animated Series. Here's a few pics from the upcoming movie...

BlizzActoVision!

+

In case you haven't herd just yet the game companies Blizzard (World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Warcraft III) and Activision (Come on you herd of Activision) are merging to become what will be the largest game company in the world (feels like a maniacal laugh should follow doesn't it?) I know the question is why should you care! Well my take is for one I love Blizzards games! I have enjoyed every game they have ever put out, except for WoW, not because I don't like, but because I never played due to the fact I know I would become addicted. I don't wanna lose my Fiancé or my job! Activision and Marvel have had a long standing relationship with many quality games (i.e. X-men Legends, Ultimate Spider-man, Spider-Man 3 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance) Soooooooooo my hope is that maybe, just maybe with the superior MMORPG skills of Blizzard, mixed with the successful handling of Marvel's licensing we may have a re-start/re-do with the Marvel MMORPG. I having nothing to go on than my own determination to will this into existence but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

New KITT from new Knight Rider?

I first mentioned the possibility of a new Knight Rider TV show HERE. Well Jalopnik has what there saying this the new KITT. For those of us (like myself) that can't instantly recognize the car it's a 550 HP Ford Shelby GT500KR Mustang. Jalopnik is a Concept/Cool car blog, I've never heard of Jalopnik before today, but I'm not much of a car guy. I do tend to believe them however, basically because they are part of the Gawker/Gizomodo/Consumerist family, which I have find to be all together pretty reliable.
Oh and there is a disclosure that the illumination of the light on the grill is photoshoped. But it actual lamp seems to be built it as shown. I wonder if they will use the the original theme song, or if they will use one of the man times the theme has been sample, like the Busta Rhymes, Panjabi MC, or Timbaland and Magoo songs.(please, please PLEASE not the Timberlad and Magoo song. Please!)

An ode to Rob Liefeld's crapiness

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Rob Liefeld is one of the worst comic artist ever to curse readers with not only his craptacular art, horrid creator owned comic stories and overall anoying Levi jeans add. Progressive Boink has compiled Liefeld's 40 worst images. I may not agree with the order, but I can't argue with any of the points they make. I say Good job Progressive Boink! New images from Watchmen

I am so excited for the new Watchmen movie, if you haven't read the Watchmen graphic novel, you are missing what is arguably the best graphic novel of all time! I have below some new images from the set of Watchmen which director Zack Snyder of 300 fame is currently working on. I know to the untrained eye these images might not be so exciting, but in order for Watchmen to truly work as a movie, it needs to take place in the 80's and from the look of these shots Zack and the gang are on the right path.

Hoff to Ride Again?

Ok wow, while poking my nose around I found this article on Reuters about everyones favorite beach bathing, word slurring, look at me mom I'm driving with no hands, talent scout, David Hasselhoff. Now Reuters is saying he and Deanna Russo of The Young and the Restless fame are in talks to star in a new Knight Rider on NBC.

I tell you one thing I know a Knight Rider without the Hoff would surely suck. As Knight Rider with the Hoff might suck too, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt for no other reason than the old series was after my bed time.
I wonder if we will see a re-tooled KIT primed and ready for product placement a la Bumblebee in Bay's Transformers. I just hope's it's better than NBC's 1933 Viper. That shows awfulness still makes me a bit nauseous.

What Do you think? Is America ready for The Hoff's first fore into prime time scripted drama since Baywatch Nights? Or should he stick to being the America's Got Talent version of Paula Abdul? Tell us how you really feel in the comments.
And Check out the Reuters piece Here.

I love "timeshifting"

I recently got an invite to the new Hulu.com. Hulu is a large free streaming library of Fox and NBC shows both new and old. I think Hulu is the network's way of fighting piracy by providing free content and adding commercials, which is just fine by me as long the adds don't take up more time then their viewings on the classic boob tube. What I love most about Hulu is the shows can be e-mailed or embedded just like most user-generated clips of people who need way too much attention and/or their cats. Anyway I like the site and heres a look at what I've been watching...

here's a couple of funny shorts

And some full lenth shows. The website allows you to view full screen versions.

Even full length Movies!

Have fun, and hit the comments to let me know what your watching

Marvel Digital Comics Review

Sorry of the delay with this review, I'd give you a good excuse, but I'm a little hungover and I can't think one up right now. Having used Marvel's selection of digital comics which they have offered for free for the last few years, I had some idea of what I was getting into. I had hoped that Marvel would have used the free digital comics to work out the kinks in their flashed based digital comics reader, I was sadly mistaken.

The comic reader has a few options on how to view the comic, one page, two page and "smart" panel. The smart panel is a great idea, it allows one to view one or two panels at at time and merrily scroll through the sequential panels. However it often crops the bottom of the panel, or looses me when it zooms out to the whole page to read a larger panel. The only way to get the whole story with smart panel is to switch between it and two page mode to zoom into what it cropped.

Two Page mode is just what it sounds like. Showing both pages on your screen, allowing you to zoom in and out to read the panels. Marvel has included a small magnifying glass which you can use to zoom the dialog boxes only. However in some cases Marvel forgot to include the larger version of dialog boxes.(i.e. Adventures into Fear # 16)

I most often use the one page mode, in which you can scroll top to bottom with the with of the page fully fitting into the with of your screen. Even this mode has a huge flaw, it crops the bottom of EVERY page. When the writers include dialog boxes at the bottom of the page, I found the need to switch back to two page mode and once again zoom to the area which I missed.
Allin all the two page works the most like it's designed to, however zooming and scrolling on every page tends to be more trouble than it's worth.

A few other flaws have slipped trough Marvel's hands, in the most noticeable of which, dialog boxes are set on the page askew off by (on my screen) about an eight of an inch.(i.e. Astonishing X-Men # 5, Irredeemable Ant-Man #2) I Also found a few pages to be under digitized, essentially appearing on my screen in "lo-res"(i.e. Irredeemable Ant-Man #2 pg 13 & 22)

OK, so even with those challenges I must say I love this idea and hope they fix the issues as well as add more content. The truth is digital comics aren't nearly as nice as sitting down with a comic or a trade, but this is a great way to allow readers to explore Marvel's vast history. I do love reading comics and the digital comics are no exception I have now found myself staring at my computer screen for hours on end for an entirely new reason.

So my final call: Great Idea, Fix the reader Issues and add more content. But still wort the price of admission.

LEGO Batman Teaser Trailer

I loved LEGO Star Wars, so I can't wait for this LEGO Batman to drop.
Calling this a trailer just isn't fair, but it's just enough to tease my fanboy sensibilities.

I've also herd some hype on a possible LEGO Indiana Jones.

It's almost sad in this age of HD Games I'm most pumped for LEGO renderings.

As far as movie adaptions go I'm still waiting for LEGO Solyent Green.
Which would be the better phrase; "Solyent Green is LEGOs!" or "They're making our blocks out of people? Or not, but a LEGO Charlton Heston I mean how cool would that be!?

Marvel still Slugish.

I've gotten on to Marvel.com and as far as the sign in page. I enter my usuall Marvel.com address in order to sign up for the subscription service and... ... ... ... ... the tension is killing me. Ok not really but this lack of forward progress is annoying.

One update I'm not thrilled with; after your subscription is up Marvel automatically re-ups your subscription. If you paid annually then you get an e-mail, you you signed up for a month to month, then you don't get any notification of renewal, just >BAM< $9.99 deducted from your credit card.

I'll be back with more, when I have it!

Marvel servers overwhelmed by a good idea?

Marvel launched it's massive subscription based comic book library, which you can read about here. I've often read Marvel's free online comic reprints online using their flash based reader, and while it will never be as good as holding a book it's a great way to catch up.

Well I have been trying to view Marvel.com for the better part of an hour with no luck...
Could Marvel's servers been overwhelmed by people ready to fork out $9.99 for one month like myself?

I don't know for sure, but I'll update you as soon as I do and give my review on the new service.

Halloween Hangover: Yip yip yip yip!

Over the next day or so I'll post any fun collections of Halloween costumes I find. I love costumes, not wearing them really, just laughing at outher people in their costumes. I'm also a little tired of reading about the pros and cons of skimpy costumes this year, so here's some great muppets costumes from ToughPigs.com check it out Here.

New X-Men X-over Messiah Complex Trailer

I don't know what it is about these comic "trailers" I love so much, but they sure do get the job done as far as hyping me up. I do love a good X-Men crossover, with the Avengers stealing the spotlight from our favorite genitically superior super heros lately (how many teams is Wolverine on?), I think we deserve a good X-over! Although at first glance the plot seems a little save the
cheerleader mutant baby, but Marvel assures us it's the biggest X-over in over a decade (when was Age of Apocalypse? And I guess we're not counting House of M as a X-Man thing?

Geroge Cloney as G.I Joe's Duke?

IESB.net is reporting that George Clooney is hard pressed for a blockbuster after the disapointing numbers put up by Michael Clayton. Word is Clooney left Carnahan’s White Jazz is to save the world from Cobra as Duke of the upcoming G.I. Joe movie. It's just a rumor at this point but I think it's a great idea. I know critics will roll their eyes and whine about smart rolls for accomplished actors and tell you how they were the first to say the bat-nipples were a bad idea. All I know is I just got a little excited for the first time about the G.I. Joe movie. I was and still am a big G.I. Joe fan, but without some fun casting, the movie will feel like so many generic un-memorable clones before it. I don't care if they rehire the entire casts of oceans 13 and mission impossible 3, give them paintball guns, catch phrases and close ups and call it a movie as long as it doesn't bore me.

Arnold says NO to drugs...leaves are ok!

Everyone's favorite homicidal robot from the future disguised as the Governor of California sat down for an interview with the British GQ. When the Govenator told the Brit mag. he hadn't take drugs, they cited the 1977 documentary "Pumping Iron" which supposedly (I haven't seen it) shows Cali's Repub. Gov. smoking a joint. He responded with "That is not a drug. It's a leaf." He assured British readers "My drug was pumping iron, trust me."

He goes on to list former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, South African President Nelson Mandela, Presidents John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev among the greatest leaders in history. When asked about America's current President George W. Bush, Schwarzenegger said "I would say that I was ... very fond of his father. I worked for President Bush Sr., and he was a great man."

Ouch! I wonder if Ben Stiller ever gets that?

Don't take my word for it, check it out at:

Must See TV, no really you gotta see this episode of 30 Rock!

I am a huge Sitcom fan, and right now I think the best sitcoms are once again on Thursday nights on NBC. It's hard to decide which is my favorite, I guess it depends on which episode of My Names is Earl, The Office or 30 Rock aired that week. Well after last weeks episode of 30 Rock we have a new front runner. I did like both the episodes of The Office and My Name is Earl last week but tis m be the funniest episode of 30 Rock yet. If you haven't discovered NBC's Thursday night line up or are to busy with Ugly Betty (I know it's funny too, I own the season 1 DVD) then you need to check out the shows on NBC.com. Please Check out the latest episode of 30 Rock Here!

Hollywood Strike, Bad for TV, Bad for Movies, good for Comic Books?

If you haven't herd of the foreboding Hollywood writers strike, let me give you my synopsis and analysis. If I'm way off base, please set me straight in the comments. The Hollywood writers currently aren't getting any revenue off digital media, (i.e itunes, the internet, etc...) and they want some. They also feel like they deserve more revenue from DVD sales and I think they want a disclaimer anytime they have to write in product placement. There's more too, but I'm having a tough time finding what else. Well, the Studios disagree, and if there is not an agreement by the end of this month the writers will walk out.

The last time writers picked up to picket, was in 1988 and lasted for 22 weeks. It had, what most agree, turned out to be inevitably bad for both sides. News magazine shows like 48 Hours gained in popularity while some shows like Moonlighting never regained their feet. David Letterman tried writing his own jokes, including his top ten list for awhile, so I'm actually excited to see what the late night crowd will do, this could separate the funny men from the funny boys and propel one or two talk show hosts to a clear favorite.

I think this strike will be very bad for good television. Scripted shows, documentaries and games shows, are the only television I enjoy, with the exception of Who Wants to be a Superhero? I fear a prime time world with even more Idol and Survivor spinoffs. Or possibly we'll see new episodes of old favorites like Elimidate or Who wants to marry a millionaire? and by favorites, I mean shows I never want to see again.

The effect on Movies could range anywhere from slight delays and annoyances, to profound and expensive, depending on how long the strike lasts.

In my opinion the writers have some very valid claims. I think as long as the studio is making a profit on the writers work, the writer should receive a cut, no matter how it's distributed. I for one love to time shift and watch my favorite shows online. I frequent NBC.com to watch Heroes, Chuck, 30 Rock, My Name is Earl and The Office whenever I miss an episode (BTW NBC 30 Rock and Chuck weren't working on last weeks episodes, so get on that!) I don't mind the adds, I know people should get paid for their work, but pay everybody who worked on it. As far as the disclaimer, I think the writers should let that go. With digital media too often pirated it may be the only way to ensure that sponsors product will be seen. The could add a disclaimer when the writers aren't forced to write product placement in, use it a selling point. "No adds were written in during the filming of this motion picture." Get the same guy to voice it as the PETA disclaimer.

My only hope is that if the writers do strike for long, they will earn their money by writing comic books. Jeph Loeb could introduce many a good TV writer to the DC universe and I'm sure a letter of recommendation from Neil Gaiman could land some solid stories at any comic company (and please please please for the love of all things holy somebody get Frank Miller off All Star Batman, come on man, WTF!?)

So Long Story Short,
The Strike is...

Very Bad For TV!
Bad For Movies?
Good For Comic Books?
We shall see...

We need more great crab raps, but not crab rappers!

As you might imagine with the Palaba's Post HQ located in lovely Baltimore Maryland, we love us some steamed crabs! I realize most of the country does not share our joy, but we know the people in Camden County sure do! And not just New Jersey, Missouri, Georgia or North Carolina, no I'm speaking of all the lovable folks of My Name Is Earl. (We love Earl too, just not as much as crabs.) Crabman, Randy, and crew (Yes Earl too) shot this music video expressing their deep admiration and respect for that delicious crustacean.

So Check out the video Here
And if you can't get enough Earl, Wikipedia has a great Wiki for his list Here

Scare the crap out of your friends!

Ok This is one of the most fun pieces of marketing I've seen in a minute. Check out the site SliceoflifeTV.com, there is a little prank you can play on your unsuspecting loved ones, while at the same time do a little advertising for Showtime's Dexter. (I've never seen Dexter or really herd anything about it, so if you've seen it let me know what's up in the comments.) All you need to do is head over to SliceoflifeTV.com enter you victim's e-mail address and Name, answer a few questions and the rube of your choice will receive an e-mail from you with a link to a fake news story. The fake news story tells of a serial killer in Miami who is not so subtlety targeting your prank victim. I recommend sending it to yourself first so you can see in what context the answers to your questions appear, but it's some great Halloween fun so what are you waiting for? When your done come back and tell me how your victim reacted.

A new Captian America!

Before I get started I feel the need to tell you that I have not always been the biggest Capitan America fan. As a kid I thought he was kinda corny. Not until the Ultimate redo of the Avengers into The Ultimates in Marvel's Ultimate Universe did he start to Ultimately grow on me. (?) I liked the view as a super soldier again I thought Cap was too one dimensional Follow the flag right or wrong, which I suppose is what a "good soldier" does. I always like to see him in battle though, flinging that shield and disshin' out some grade A but kicking. So I really start getting into Cap and the whole "Civil War" thing starts over in the Marvel U, and what comes next? The go and kill Capitan America or Steve Rodgers that is. I think he's been "dead" before, there have been other people filling his shoes (Really though, why is U.SA.gent still wearing that I wanna be cap outfit and calling himself U.S.Agent while running around saving Canada? I know If I was told that my country needed Capitan Maple Leaf or Mr. Mexico to defend it, I'd been insulted.) So the Capitan America book has been really good since Steve-o kicked the bucket, and now as we all knew they would they've found a replacement. I don't know who's behind the mask and Marvel isn't telling. But by the look of the pic's they put up Cap is again Caucasian, ruling out Sam Wilson aka the Falcon, who I was rooting for. I wonder what it does to those Will Smith as Cap in the next movie roomers? Oh and I guess some people are upset over the gun. Well the rest of the world thinks Americans are a little to gun crazy, so I guess it fits. According to the article over at Marvel Alex Ross git the inspiration form the 1940's movie serial. I must say I'm not sure about the shiny outfit but time will tell. What do you think of the new duds? Let us know in the comments...

Check out this Tokyo Party Boat

Check out this party boat I spotted over at Gizmodo. It's the Jicoo "Floating Bar". They call themselves a "Floating Bar" but we have a few here in the Baltimore Harbor we call Party Boats. Anyway, I'm going to try and get one of out Japan corrispondents to check it out and mabie get some Video. The bar cost ¥2,500 or $21.30 and includes your first drink, so I think we can work it into the Palaba's Post budget this month, but only if they take the train home. Drinking, driving and boating is way too much in any language. So if you'r trying to check out the secinic view of Tokyo from the bay, the boat leaves Hinode Pier every hour. The Hinode Pier is a short walk drom Hinode station on the Yurikamome line from the Shinbashi station, or so I've been told. Or call them yourself at 0120-49-490

Here's some more picks
